Amazon requires special codes, like UPC (Unique Product Code) or GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), for the products you sell on its platform. However, if you're creating a new product without one of these codes, you'll need to apply for a GTIN Exemption.
This guide will walk you through the process specifically for drinkware items, which is especially helpful if you're using PODtomatic to upload print-on-demand products to your Amazon account.
Let's dive into the steps:
Start by going to your Amazon account. Look for "Catalog" and then "Add Products."
Search for "Coffee Mug" in the box and press "Submit."
Click "Create a new listing" to make a new item.
Type any name for your test item, like "Funny Coffee Mug Test" and add some numbers to ensure it's unique.
Amazon might suggest "Drinking Cup" as the Product Type. Click "Confirm."
After clicking 'Confirm,' Amazon will display additional sections where you'll need to provide information about the brand name and Product ID.
If you don't have a brand name, just enter "Generic" and tick the box that says "This product does not have a brand name." If you have a brand name, put it in the box instead.
Then, tick the box that says "I don't have a Product ID" and press Next.
A message will pop up saying "UPC Exemption Approved." This means you can sell things without UPC codes now. Press "Acknowledge."
Once everything is completed, click 'Save as draft' to finalize the process.
Now you're ready to have PODtomatic list tons of products to your Amazon account without the need for UPC or GTIN codes.
